Lazy Days Hat

Just returned from Queensland after some serious rest and relaxation and some very Lazy Days!  There is nothing that quite beats reading a book on the beach, under the warm rays of the sun - whilst the kids frolic in the waves without a care in the world.

Lyn has just whipped up this gorgeous hat from Make It Perfect.  Perfect for a little boy!  It's reversible and for a bit of a challenge - I gave Lyn this striped fabric to see how it worked in a hat form.  Pretty good I think!  Light colours are great for hats as they reflect the suns rays and this light tan colour is perfect as it will hide at least some of the dirt that seems to follow a little boy around!  At the end of the day - it can always go in the washing machine!  Well done Lyn!

Boy crazy

There's been quite a boy theme to my posts recently. Partially because I'm surrounded by incessant discussion about star wars. ( we just introduced c to movies 4,5,6 ). M's in on the act too so here's her sketch of Yoda.

Boy projects

Thinking of Anni's new book (see below) made me think of a few projects that are also around for boys

- Make it Perfect has clothing patterns such as the downtown boy jacket,little explorer trousers and the lazy days hat
- Natalie Ross has designed the going bananas quilt (appliqué monkeys) and the little borowers library bag (features owls)
- Melly and me have any numbr of boy friendly softies (magoo the monkey, dilbert the dinosaur etc)
- the are loads of quilt patterns around. Many of the strip quilts and those with strong geometric patterns suit boys as well as old favourites such as log cabin, square in z square (mistyped but like z frenchness), and Ohio star etc. If looking for strip patterns, "strip clubbing" is an excellent place to start. A boy's story

Anni Downs of hatched and patched has just released her new book with boys in mind "a boy's story". Boy projects can pose some real headaches when you feel surrounded by so many pretty fabrics! But not any longer! This is Anni's largest book to date with 56 pages (twice as big as her others). RRP is $35.95 which is equivalent to 2 patterns which is terrific value. Melbourne craft expo 8-11 October

I'm busy planning for the Melbourne craft expo which is coming up soon at the royal exhibition buildings in Carlton. I love the shows, it's so inspiring to be amongst so many crafty people. Hope you can make it along and come and say hello. Got a few more things to make before then and yet again my mind is overflowing with ideas!

Turtles

On a short break by the seaside so leafing through the latest homespun i hit upon the perfect project. Tickle the turtle by Audrey and Maude. Have been plotting how to get miss m to make it for her bro. She's already great at English paper piecing. Whilst different from the instructions it'll be the perfect place to start. And since when have I ever followed instructions?!
