Have been busying away making cushions recently - as you can tell by some of my blog posts below. They are SO great to make as they are a fantastic way to work on your quilting skills - to help you build up to the idea of doing a whole quilt.
So for my friends daughter I made a Worry doll cushion. The pattern is by Kellie of Don't Look Now
and then today - when I should have been doing something entirely different I made the top for another cushion based on one of Kellie's other designs - "Little monsters".

So sing out if you want a "limited edition" kit just like this. Haven't priced it yet but it would be around $15 including the white fabric and the binding - but don't hold me to this price. That price doesn't include the pattern which is $18 (because it's the pattern for the quilt).
And last night - appropriate for valentines day - i almost finished the pattern for my "sweet hugs of mine" cushion trio - which will be available soon.

These lovely hand overdyed six stranded cottons are just perfect for stitchery - because they have a short stitch length which means they change colour quickly when stitching.
The range has been considerably increased and some of them now are available in perle weights.
So take a good look at the range here if you are interested! I will have them all on the website shortly. I don't sell them individually, usually splitting each family into two or three sub families of about 5 skeins per family. I can do a pick and mix approach for a minimum of six threads if you email me, but sometimes this may increase the postage time by about a week or two if I need to order extra threads in. Price per skein is $7 plus postage.
Would it surprise you to know that I am a "rainbow garden family" girl?
I have made the Quilt Aid 2010 quilt and had some left over fabric so thought a set of cushions would be just the thing! Keeping with the theme of faith, hope, love - I made this trio of cushions thinking more about love (heart), hugs (yo-yos) and Kisses (quilted X).
I'd had the idea for the first one for a while now - just took a slight push to get me started.
The thing was it turned out a bit bigger than I expected - so I decided to make one half the size.
the plan with this one was to put yo-yos around the border. But once I'd stuffed it with a cushion insert the wide border I had left for the yo-yos bent around the cushion so the yo-yos wouldn't sit facing the front. So not to be put off I made a smaller simpler cushion with only yo-yos.
This one makes me think of a box of chocoloates! With the yo'yo's sitting there in rows. If you look close you'll see they aren't sewn on yet - just playing with the arrangement - but I like it how it is now!
So there you go - I started off planning to make one - and now I have a nice co-ordinated nest of three pillows that will go really well with the quilt aid quilt.
